Axel stiffened, hearing the strange howl in his territory. It had been weeks since a new wolf had come onto his land. The wind whistled through the trees and ruffled his multicolored pelt as he raised his nose to the sky and tried to catch the scent of whoever was in his forest. All he could tell was the location of the wolf, somewhere north of him, close enough to catch if Axel decided to chase the rogue off of his land.
But then Axel thought of his two new family members, Chloe and Sparky.
I want to protect them, he thought. But my dream is to see our pack grow.
Axel decided to give the stranger a chance. He howled in response, a deep, powerful sound that carried through the ancient and dead trees on the breeze.
